Manchester United Football Club have been told it would cost £20million to sign Leighton Baines.

Sir Alex Ferguson is in the market for a new left fullback this summer, as he plans to provide competition for Patrice Evra who had a mixed season last term.

Baines is regarded as one of the best in his position in the Premier League, with some even suggesting he should be ahead of Chelsea’s Ashley Cole in England’s pecking order.

United, though, are thought to have been told that it would cost £20million to prise the 27-year-old from Everton, and Ferguson is unlikely to meet such a price.
