However, Macheda has failed to establish himself at Old Trafford since, and he has also endured frustrating loan spells at Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers.

Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to loan the 20-year-old for the entirety of next season, and Scottish champions Celtic could be in a position to offer him UEFA Champions League football.
