Federico Macheda has been linked with a loan move to Blackburn Rovers.
The Italian striker burst onto the first team scene in some style in 2009, when he scored two vital goals as Manchester United retained their title.
However, he has since been unable to make the first team on a regular basis, and has had unsuccessful loan spells at Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers.
Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to loan Macheda again for the duration of next season, and Steve Kean is thought to want him to Ewood Park.
Whilst this would be a step down in terms of level of football, it would at least offer the 20-year-old the chance of regular first team action in the Championship.
