Derby County are closing on the signature of Michael Jacobs.
The 20-year-old is out of contract at Northampton Town this summer, and he has rejected the offer of a new deal at the League Two club.
Due to his age the Cobblers are entitled to compensation when the midfielder does move on, and there has been no shortage of interest in his signature.
It is believed that the Rams, though, are on the verge of beating off all competition for Jacobs, who is expected to join the Championship side this week.
It is believed the Pride Park club have settled on a fee with Northampton for the transfer, and the player will undergo a medical before finalising the move.
