Martin O’Neill wants Ricky van Wolfswinkel at Sunderland.

The Black Cats manager is determined to build on the progress he made last season, when he succeeded Steve Bruce at the Stadium of Light.

O’Neill has been told he has cash to spend during the summer, and The Journal claims he is eyeing an ambitious bid for Holland international van Wolfswinkel.

The 23-year-old has in the past been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United, and it would take at least £15million to persuade Sporting Lisbon to sell.
