Manchester United could be set to make a move for Demba Ba.

The Senegal international was a sensational at Newcastle United last season, following his free transfer move from West Ham United in the summer.

It has since emerged that the 27-year-old has a release clause of just £7million, which can be activated if such a bid is tabled before the end of July.

A number of clubs are said to be weighing up offers for Ba, the latest of which are United who are in need of attacking reinforcements ahead of next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson has released Michael Owen and is expected to lose Dimitar Berbatov, so the Magpies star would be a welcome and affordable addition.
