Sunderland will not meet the £15million asking price for Steven Fletcher.
Martin O’Neill is determined to add to his attacking options ahead of the new season, and has set his sights on the Scotland international.
Fletcher is one of a handful of players expected to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers, following their relegation from the Premier League last term.
O’Neill had hoped to land the 25-year-old for a fee of around £8million, but the Black Cats boss has been told he will have to stump up £15million to land him.
