Roberto Di Matteo has made the German international one of his top targets for the summer, but has already seen an offer of around £18million rejected.

The Italian coach remains confident of persuading Bayer Leverkusen to sell, though, and is set to return with a much improved bid of £24million.

Di Matteo is convinced Schurrle, 21, can become one of the best forwards in Europe, and is determined not to lose out on his signature to a rival club.
