Arsenal may be about to enter the race to sign Vurnon Anita.

The Holland international has been linked with a move to Newcastle United for much of the summer, but the Magpies have been unable to persuade Ajax to sell.

Whilst the Dutch club are prepared to let the midfielder leave during the summer window, the Magpies offer of £4million was considered well short of their valuation.

It is believed this has allowed Arsene Wenger the chance to lure Anita to the Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners boss prepared to pay £6million for the 23-year-old.
