Sunderland turn to Chamakh
01:00 PM 07 November, 2012
Sunderland are plotting a January bid for Marouane Chamakh.

Martin O’Neill’s side are the lowest scorers in the Premier League this term, with five of their goals being scored by Steven Fletcher…and the other being an own-goal.

The Black Cats boss knows he must boost his options when the window reopens, and he hopes to add two new strikers to his squad in a bid to increase their goal return.

One target is believed to be Chamakh, 28, who is out of favour at Arsenal, with O’Neill hoping to take him on loan with the view to a permanent deal if he impresses.

The Moroccan international is hardly full of goals, with just 8 in 40 appearances for the Gunners, but he was more prolific in his days at French club Bordeaux.

Chamakh had a record of one goal in four games for the Ligue 1 club, and he helped them win the title in 2009 before signing a four-year deal with the Londoners in 2010.
