£3million Chimbonda remains an option for Tottenham Hotspur
11:45 AM 19 January, 2009
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have not ruled out a swoop for Pascal Chimbonda.

The France defender only left White Hart Lane for Sunderland in the summer, when the Black Cats forked out £4.5million for the former Wigan Athletic fullback.

However, Harry Redknapp is looking for a right-back whilst the transfer window is open, and he has set his sights on bringing Chimbonda back to North London.

The News of the World claim Spurs are weighing up an offer of £3million for the 29-year-old, who has failed to settle at the Stadium of Light.

Harry has only just arrived and needs a little more time, Pav and Defoe will be a sure pairing spurs need grafters in midfield, Zokora has lost his way of late and until Bentley came on against pompy we were looking at a defeat, We need a couple of defenders Ledley is a spent force and woody isnt far behind who do we have who could replace them Dawson is not good enough. Why wont Harry play the spaniard keeper or Ben Alnwich what is the problem Gomes is injured so why play him surely he wont be playing tomorrow at Burnley that should give a chance to whoever gets the nod. Just roll on next season to regroup and sort the mistakes out this was supposed to be are big season then all are grafters left what was Ramos thinking?

I am at a complete loss to understand what is going through Harry's mind. I have to admit that I was one who really thought that he would be the saviour for Spurs THIS YEAR. His record proves this, as, apart from last year, all he has ever done is get clubs out of the shit and keep them in their respective divisions, without actually winning anything. Portsmouth's cup win last year was a one-off as the last two teams left in the cup final proves. I would really be grateful if Harry can explain his thoughts for Chimbonda, because he left both Wigan and us with a huff like a spoilt brat. I was glad to see him go. We have an abundance of really good players at Spurs but it seems that none of them are ever going to get a chance. We have Corluka playing out of his skin at right back and a Welsh international, Gunter, in the wings. He has never let us down when playing on the very few occasions, and will go on to make a really good player. But, it seems to me, that also will be at another team. Also we have an England under-21 international goakeeper, Ben Alnwick, and we are looking for another. He has never been given a chance, even though Gomes is injured. When he picked up that injury, we had played only one sub, but what did Harry do, when Gomes quite blatantly pointed out he was in trouble. He brought on both the other two subs and left the goalkeeper completely stranded and even unable to kick a ball. Lastly, what about young Bostock? Surely he deserves a chance. I really think that age has nothing to do with it. Ifyou are good enough, you are old enough. Sorry Harry, although you can speak the necessary English very well, you will have to do much better than this.

I disagree with all the above comments, i personally rate chimbonda, i feel he is by far the best RB in the prem, and would love him back... but he's a big sulk when things don't go his way and i feel with the position were in now he won't help much, unless motivated. his tackling was second to none when at spurs, most people had problems with his attacking play but towards the end of his time at the lane he was improving that side of his game, he failed to cope with the pressure of having competition for his place when hutton arrived and i felt that was his undoing, but like steed and defoe, we shouldn't have sold him in the first place. How much do you guys think Sunderland would trade Steed for?

Spurs will have the same problem as initially with Defoe only the time gap is shorter (6 months as apposed to 11 months with Defoe. This is a non-starter!

Never been a fan of Chimbonda.. a reserve goalie would be more appropriate, Chimbonda looked slack when he played for Spurs and I'm bored of players looking slack. In the second half of the Pompey match things began to gel a bit.
