Portsmouth Football Club are still hopeful of signing Javier Saviola.

The 27-year-old forward is out of favour at Real Madrid and is said to be available for transfer, with Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie hoping to strike a loan deal for the Argentine.

“That's one we have been seriously looking at," Storrie told The News of Saviola. "The problem is we need someone to come in that's going to play in the team straight away.

"He's not played any football since November and you are talking about the Premier League, you need people that are regularly playing games and at the fitness level.

"But that's an option we are still looking at."
