Everton could turn to £5million Greening
03:00 PM 05 March, 2009
Jonathan Greening has emerged as a potential target for Everton Football Club.

Despite spending £15million on Marouane Fellaini in the summer, David Moyes remains keen to add another midfielder to his squad.

Sporting Lisbon’s Miguel Veloso has long been linked with a move to Goodison Park, but the Portuguese giants rate him at around £17million.

A cheaper option for the Toffees could be Greening, who is currently in the midst of a serious relegation fight with West Bromwich Albion.

Moyes is said to be a fan of the 30-year-old, and should the Baggies lose their top-flight status, they could face a fight to hang on to their £5million-rated midfielder.

Greening would nail a wooden cross to his back and walk from the Midlands to Goodison if he thought there was any chance of him getting a move to Everton.

The old joke used to be "What would you do if Jesus came to Liverpool?". Well even if it did happen it is 40 years too late (and the wrong scally club) for the punchline to make any sense, Come to think of it, it is a good £3 million too much to make any sense at all. (Incidentally the original punchline was "move St. John to inside left" - boom boom).

Please tell me this is a joke! I have it on good authority he would never go to Everton. Not remotely interested in their playing 'style'. Only wants to play for a passing team who attempt to play good football which would suit his play. Also he doesn't believe Everton will ever win anything so its no special step up. If a genuinely big side with skill like say Arsenal were interested of course he would probably jump at it, but obviously not Everton. So any price is academic.

Ha Ha Ha why join Everton when he can play for a quality top flight team - like WBA???. Everton are a team of grafters with one of the premierships best managers. Our pedigree is one to be proud of. And as for passing - Mikel Arteta! - enough said methinks.

I really do have it on good authority he wouldn't join Everton for the reasons I stated, that doesn't mean other players wouldn't succeed at Goodison, but Greening (rightly) feels it would do him (or the Toffees) no good at all. Why do you go off on one about West Brom or Boro, its just a fact. Why don't you add Man U if you mean that, he did play for them too. Fergie claimed he was the best player to leave them at one time. Your reaction is pathetic, he is worth plenty to lots of teams, just not Everton. And as for the comments about winning things can you deny it? Money talks. Football is fixed. If you are lucky you might get a cup run once in a while, thats it. You could argue he had more success at West Brom than he is likely to get anywhere else outside the Big Bore having won the championship and been to Wembley twice recently.

Jonathan Greening is surely the worst player ever to win a Champions League Winners Medal!!!

Please tell me this is a joke! Greening is not good enough for everton and if we had to take him to Everton then surely a fee somewhere in the region of £500 is more realistic.
