Carrick close to joining Lampard at Chelsea!
03:00 PM 18 March, 2009
Claudio Ranieri has revealed he could have signed Michael Carrick during his time in charge of Chelsea Football Club.

Carrick has established himself as one of the best midfielders in England for Manchester United, but he could have been starring next to Frank Lampard instead.

"When I paid £11million for him (Lampard) people were surprised, but how much is he worth now?” said the former Blues boss, now coach of Juventus.

"At the time I signed him I wanted to sign Michael Carrick as well. We only had the money to sign one so I had to make a decision which one to buy.

"I think I made the right choice signing Lampard."

Carrick was at the time a youngster at West Ham United, who he left for Tottenham Hotspur before eventually pitching up at Old Trafford.
