Pearce launches astonishing Chelsea attack
06:30 PM 29 September, 2008
Stuart Pearce admits he would advise any young English talent not to sign for Chelsea Football Club.

The England Under-21 manager has accused the Londoners of buying the top talent in the country and leaving them on the sidelines, like they did when they signed Shaun Wright-Phillips in 2005.

The winger was then a star player at Pearce’s Manchester City, but his £21million move was to prove a disaster and he returned to Eastlands just this summer and has found his form again.

"If a lad rang me and said 'I'm 16, at Crewe Alexandra and Chelsea have come in for me, what do you think I should do?' I would reply 'stay where you are and play some football,’” Pearce told The Sun.

"I watched Chelsea train last year. I saw Steve Sidwell, Reading's best player from the previous season, and Tal Ben Haim, Bolton Wanderers’ best player from the year before. Neither was in the first team.

"So Chelsea have cherry-picked the best players from elsewhere and stockpiled them. That is not right. I've seen too may players move club, then suddenly their careers seem to grind to a halt."
