Promotion-chasing Rochdale have signed 26-year old left-back Tom Newey on loan until the end of the season.

Newey has had spells at Cambridge United and Leyton Orient before moving to Blundell Park in 2005.

He has only played six times for Grimsby since November and was told he was surplus to requirements with the Mariners. He made nearly 150 appearances for them in his time at the club.
