Italian youngster Macheda was a virtual unknown a little over a week ago, but he has left the bench to score vital winning goals against Aston Villa and Sunderland.

The former Lazio starlet is sure to feature more prominently for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the coming years, and this is likely to spell the end for Angolan international Manucho at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old has been on loan at Hull City this season and has impressed manager Phil Brown, who now wants to make the deal permanent for a fee of £750,000.
