Upson off to Arsenal as defender signs for West Ham?
The Daily Mirror claims that Matthew Upson is gagging for European football, so could be set for a return to his former club Arsenal if West Ham fail to qualify for the Europa League.
Many Arsenal fans believe Arsene Wenger let Upson leave too early and too cheaply when he was sold to Birmingham for just £1m (the Gunners losing £1m on the transaction as they'd forked out £2m to Luton prior to that).
Arsenal would no doubt welcome Upson back, but West Ham will be reluctant to sell and will want expect to at least recoup the £6m they paid Birmingham for the centre back.
Qualification for the Europa League seems unlikely given West Ham's tough run-in: Aston Villa (a), Chelsea (h), Stoke City (a), Liverpool (h), Everton (a), and Middlesbrough (h).
But then again, the Hammers have taken points from games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool this season, so anything's possible for this promising side.
Meanwhile, defender Herita Ilunga has been signed on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee from Toulouse and has put pen to paper on a contract to keep him at Upton Park until 2013.
